Road Transport and Last-Mile Delivery for Medical Equipment

Ocean and air freight get the headlines, but for most medical equipment shipments, the final and most damage-prone leg of the journey happens on a truck — from the port or airport to a distribution warehouse, and then from that warehouse to the hospital loading dock (or, more often, to a facility with no loading dock at all). Why the Last Mile Is High Risk
Ocean and air carriers move cargo in relatively controlled, standardized environments. Road transport, especially in the destination country, is often the least standardized leg:

Air-Ride Trailers vs. Standard Suspension
Standard truck trailers use steel leaf-spring suspension, which transmits more road vibration and shock directly into the cargo. Air-ride is recommended — and sometimes contractually required — for:
- Calibrated precision equipment (analyzers, imaging systems)
- Fragile electronics and monitors
- Glass-containing components (displays, optics)

Liftgates and Loading Dock vs. No-Dock Delivery
